Jon Paino, who just completed his fifth season as baseball coach at Temecula Valley, is stepping down to spend more time with his family, which includes two young sons, according to this report.

Good call, coach.

I’ve been blessed with a work schedule that has allowed me to coach my 8-year-old son’s Little League team the last three seasons. The chance to spend extra time with him has been great, but watching he and his teammates learn the game and develop into players has been even better.

Sure, there have been some tough losses and a few parents who don’t understand the concept of team play, but all in all, it has been some of the most rewarding time of my life.

I’m already looking forward to next season, when I plan to move my 6-year-old son on to his older brother’s team. They’re only young once, so enjoy the time while you still have it.
