Baseball: Mater Dei holding on to 4-3 lead over Simi Valley

Mater Dei is clinging to a 4-3 lead over fourth-seeded Simi Valley going into the bottom of the fourth inning of its Southern Section-Toyota Division I semifinal game at UC Riverside.

Pitcher Ian McCarthy has settled down while also relying on strong defense in the outfield for the Monarchs. SImi Valley pitcher Nick Russo has gotten out of several jams.

But as the game moves on, the closer it gets to Mater Dei’s bringing in ace Aaron Northcraft. Simi Valley has to make sure it doesn’t let the Monarchs score any more runs.
