Mater Dei had runners on first and third in the bottom of the sixth, but Nick Russo got Jacob Medina to fly out, and fourth-seeded Simi Valley is now three outs from a trip to Dodger Stadium with a 5-4 lead over Mater Dei in a Southern Section-Toyota Division I semifinal.

Simi Valley’s bullpen has been getting a workout, but Russo keeps hanging in, having scattered 10 hits. Mater Dei will have its Nos. 2, 3 and 4 hitters up in the bottom of the seventh. Simi Valley is looking to score some insurance runs off Matt Blanchard.
