Should she move out of the water and onto the mat?

I’ve always believed that if an athlete, particularly a girl, participates in a niche sport, she stands a better chance of receiving an athletic scholarship for college. That’s what people always tell me when I say that my daughter plays high school water polo, and that’s she’s pretty good at it.

But if you want to get really niche-y about girls’ sports, try wrestling. Granted, it’s a growing sport in some Southland hotbeds, but there are still only a relative handful of participants, which means more opportunities for scholarship offers, at least among the small colleges that offer the sport. Can the big schools be far behind?
