A bases-loaded walk issued by Simi Valley’s Drew Sandler allowed Cody Harris to score, giving Long Beach Wilson a 1-0 lead after two innings at the Southern Section-Toyota Division I championship Friday night at Dodger Stadium.

Sandler ran into trouble early in the second, giving up a leadoff single to Jesse VanSickle before surrendering a double to Harris.

Tanner Perkins then reached base on what was ruled a fielder’s choice after Simi Valley first baseman Eric Bernstein decided to keep a watchful eye on VanSickle at third rather than make a play at first. It appeared he could have tagged out Perkins, but Bernstein didn’t make the attempt.

However, Bernstein gunned out VanSickle on the force out at home plate on the next at-bat.

The inning ended after Sandler struck out Aaron Hicks with the bases loaded.

In the top of the inning, Hicks struck out Chance Cross and retired the Pioneers in order.

My Internet connection at Dodger Stadium is really slow right now, so it doesn’t look as if I’ll be able to send over any photos for the rest of the night.
