I knew the first mistake of the game would prove costly -- and it has helped Northview take a 1-0 lead heading into the sixth inning of its Division IV title game with Diamond Ranch.

Northview’s R.J. Arnold hit a leadoff single, but advanced to third after a bad pick-off throw by pitcher Gus Lanuza. First baseman Jericho Kelsey wasn’t near the bag at the time of the throw, so it was definitely Lanuza’s blunder.

Arnold then scored on a RBI-single to center field by Ruben Ramirez.

A heads up throw by Northview catcher Robert Williams resulted in a 2-6-3 double play which effectively destroyed Diamond Ranch’s chance to get a run across the plate even though Lanuza hit a single to center field.

Eddie Pedroza took over for starter Aaron Elias in the bottom of the fifth for Northview.

Linescore so far:

Northview 000 01 -- 1 4 -0
Diamond Ranch 000 00 -- 0 4 1

And the photo is a bird’s eye view of the Northview dugout.
