Softball: El Modena scores five runs in top of the first

El Modena has jumped out to a big 5-0 lead in the Southern Section-Toyota Division II championship game against Glendora at Barber Park in Irvine.

Almost nothing went right for the Tartans. Even what could have possibly been an inning-ending double play turned into a costly two-run error.

After El Modena’s Kylie Wagner and Emiley McEwen hit consecutive home runs to give the Vanguards a three-run lead, Carly Fellhoelter and Davin Vanderhoff followed with consecutive singles. Tracy Kleekamp then hit a grounder to shortstop Natalia Hernandez, but the ball bounced off of Hernandez and into right field, that allowed Fellhoelter and Vanderhoff to score and Kleekamp to reach third. But that’s were the rally ended.
