La Serna pitcher Holly Consterdine helped her cause with a two-run single in the fifth inning. Sophomore Ashley Holmes, who hit a two-run home run in the first inning, then drove-in Consterdine with a hard line drive that bounced off the third baseman’s glove.

La Serna’s lead is now up to 5-0 heading into the sixth inning in the Southern Section-Toyota Division III championship game at Barber Park in Irvine.

Consterdine, who is 2 for 3 at the plate, is cruising on the mound with seven strikeouts.

Holmes, who’s also 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs, showed a lot of class when taken out for a courtesy runner after her hit. As she headed to the dugout, she took a slight detour to shake third baseman Tiffany Blanco’s hand.

After Homes’ line drive, Blanco laid down on the field for a few seconds as her left hand was looked at by medical personnel. That was pure class, which is a lot more than I can say about La Serna’s fans, who, after Consterdine’s single started to chant, ‘It’s all over ... It’s all over.’ Way to stay classy, Whittier.
