La Serna’s Ashley Holmes may have given teammate Holly Consterdine all the run support she needs, and more.

Holmes, a sophomore, hit a two-out, two-run home run off of Paloma Valley’s A.J. Woodward in the bottom of the first inning to put the Lancers ahead, 2-0, in the Southern Section-Toyota Division III championship game Friday at Barber Park in Irvine.

Last week, La Serna Coach Ginger Larsin told me that the team has relied all season on the mentality that if it gave Consterdine a one-run lead, it would win the game.

It’s worth noting that Woodward, despite giving up the home run, struck out two to start the game.
