More bad news for the Inland Empire at the CIF state track preliminaries Friday at Cerritos College. We’ve already well-documented the troubles of the Rancho Verde girls’ team, now it’s the school’s boys who are having difficulty finding their groove.

The Rancho Verde boys’ 400-meter relay team came into the event ranked eighth in state, but finished 10th -- one spot out of qualifying for Saturday’s finals. Corona Santiago performed even more poorly in the one-lap relay. The Sharks came into the race with the fourth-fastest time in the state (41.57), which they accomplished on the same track last week at the Masters meet, but they were 11th in 41.93.
