Can’t beat the weather here at the CIF state track and field preliminaries at Cerritos College. After the sauna-like conditions at the Southern Section-Toyota finals two weeks ago at Mt. San Antonio College, then shivering like an Eskimo at the Masters meet last Friday at Cerritos College, it’s nice to enjoy temperatures in the mid-70s.

There’s a little wind swirling around, so that could play a factor in qualifying if one heat is more windy than the next, thus making the times a little slower. Hopefully, it’ll die down a little later this evening.

Already a state-leading mark in the boys’ shot put, as Colin Quirke of Los Gatos threw 63 feet 6 inches.

Check back for further updates. The running events begin at 5 p.m.
