Newbury Park RB Chris Brown has committed to Utah, reports Rivals.com.

Brown is expected to be one of the region’s top running backs this fall and his decision to go with the Utes comes only weeks after receiving a scholarship offer from the Mountain West Conference school. Wyoming, Idaho and Portland State also made offers for his services, but Brown said he had ‘high interest’ in the Utah program.

The 2007 Marmonte League MVP made a somewhat early decision in regard to his college plans so he could focus on his senior season. His decision to go with Utah was also influenced by the Utes recruiting him as a running back -- the position he wants to play in college. Other schools were recruiting him as a defensive back.

Brown rushed for 1,908 yards and 22 TDs as a junior.
