Boys’ volleyball: Vegas named most valuable player in City Section

The Los Angeles City Section has chosen its All-City squad and Palisades setter Scott Vegas was selected most valuable player after leading the Dolphins to their 11th section title and first since 1998. A senior headed for UCLA, Vegas had 49 assists against El Camino Real in the City finals May 17.

Joining Vegas on the first team are Palisades’ Matt Hanley (outside) and Kene Izuchukwu (opposite), El Camino Real’s Gisear Alcantar (libero) and David Reynaga (setter), Sylmar’s Felipe Garcia (setter) and Tyler Honeycutt (outside), middle blockers Keaton Cashier (Taft), Joe Randis (Granada Hills) and Joe Ha (Van Nuys), outside hitters Ross McFarland (Verdugo Hills), Colin Ziegler (Westchester) and Christian Nava (Grant), setter Ryan Machado (Venice) and opposite Anthony Kelley (Birmingham).

The second team consists of hitters Jeff Abadilla (Carson), Jordan Cohen (Palisades), Jon Ben Haim (Granada Hills), Andrew Trivino (Chatsworth) and Skyler Vaden (Washington); setters Charles Ahn (Chatsworth), Julio Amarillas (Venice) and Bobby Blake (Verdugo Hills); middle blockers Dominique Blake (Carson), Matt Lieske (Venice), Andrew Pitters (Granada Hills) and Scott Wolfson (El Camino Real); and liberos Matt Farias (Sylmar) and Sameer Nyazi (Taft).
