Baseball: Centennial outfielder Magee taken with first pick in Round 29

Brandon Magee, an outfielder from Corona Centennial who was also a strong safety for the football team, was the first player selected in Round 29 of Friday’s Major League Baseball first-year player draft. Magee was selected with the 863rd pick overall by the Tampa Bay Rays.

Stephen Penny, a right-handed pitcher from UC Riverside who’s from the San Diego area, was taken 882nd by the Seattle Mariners, and Ryan McCarney, a right-handed pitcher from College of the Canyons by way of Vazquez High, was selected by the Cleveland Indians with pick No. 891.
