How many quarterbacks does it take to replace Christopher Potter of Oaks Christian?

Well, the Lions had five quarterbacks competing for the starting job during the spring, and a sixth, Chaminade transfer Nick Isham, arrived this week to join the competition.

Isham is one of three sophomores who transferred to Oaks Christian from Chaminade, and all will be eligible immediately under the new Southern Section transfer rules that allow a one-time transfer before a student’s sophomore year.

And he might have a chance to emerge as the starting quarterback based on the fact none of the others separated themselves during spring practice.

‘He was a very good freshman and had a ton of potential,’ Chaminade Coach Anthony Harris said of Isham, who was the varsity backup last season.

And Oaks Christian could be getting one of the best incoming freshmen in the San Fernando Valley in 6-1 receiver Jordan Payton, who’s playing Sunday in the Valley Youth Conference all-star game at Birmingham.
