Loyola could be a team to reckon with based on its 81-72 victory over a good Pasadena team in the opening round of the Fairfax tournament Tuesday.

The Cubs’ front line consisted of 6-foot-8 Hollis Thompson, 6-9 Carl Hoffman and 6-9 Tony Wroblicky. And there’s another 6-9 player on the team.

Hoffman scored 24 points, Thompson had 19 and guard Miles Cartwright had 18.

And the Cubs are adding two new players. Sophomore guard Ryan Oliver is joining the team after starting as a freshman at Murphy. Freshman guard Jacob Hazzard is the grandson of former UCLA great Walt Hazzard.
