Budget cutbacks in the City Section make it unlikely that the Coliseum will be used for the section’s championship football game, according to Commissioner Barbara Fiege.

The athletics office has lost $85,000 in funds used to help hold events at big-time professional and college facilities. Unless there’s help from corporate sponsors, the City will have to hold finals at some of its new schools or at junior colleges.

Dodger Stadium has been the home for the City baseball final since 1969, and there are plans to continue there if possible because the Dodgers have given the section a financial break.

Football, however, remains a problem. The Coliseum charges more than $40,000 in rent. Don’t be surprised if El Camino College in Torrance becomes the site for the 2008 final.
