It’s safe to say that Terran Carter isn’t the most sought-after Division I prospect around. But the 6-foot-5 senior-to be from Taft looked every bit the part Tuesday, scoring 14 points and adding seven rebounds in less than three quarters of work in a 77-51 victory over Sylmar in the finals of the War on the Floor Tournament.

He’s been contacted by the likes of Kentucky and Tennessee, although it’s highly unlikely he’ll end up at such a high-profile program. My guess is, the interest from the big-time schools is a function of scouts’ noticing his well-rounded skill set as he played alongside North Carolina-bound Larry Drew Jr. a season ago.

Carter appears destined for a much smaller school, perhaps Boston U or Montana State, a pair of colleges close to offering him a scholarship. ‘Yeah, I talk to both those schools all the time,’’ he said. ‘I’m not in a rush to make a decision, though.’’ In the meantime, expect more flashes of brilliance from a player with loads of potential.
