Football: Bishop Amat-Los Osos should be a close one

I’ll admit it -- my anticipation over the upcoming ‘Knight Rider’ series could be stronger than anything prep football throws at me this month, but there are a few games this weekend that are bound to get me screeching with excitement.

One of those is the Bishop Amat-Los Osos contest on Friday. Last year, the Grizzlies overcame a 14-point halftime deficit to pull off a thrilling, 41-38 victory over the Lancers.

This year’s showdown could be another nail-biter. First-year Bishop Amat Coach Steve Hagerty (pictured back in the day while at Paraclete) has upped the expectation level in La Puente and the game should be a decent indicator of whether the Lancers can challenge for a playoff spot in the devastatingly tough Pac-5 Division.

Still, let’s not count out Richard Brehaut and the Los Osos bunch. Brehaut has made a habit out of defying expectations and the UCLA-bound QB could be the difference.

Here’s some footage of last year’s game I dug up on YouTube. It’s pretty one-sided, but you know what they say -- to the victor goes the game film.

By the way, I’m not really infatuated with ‘Knight Rider.’ Whose idea was it to bring back that gas-guzzling gabbermouth anyway? It’s probably the same folks who thought reactivating ‘Bionic Woman’ would work.
