Boron High sophomore running back and safety Vinnie Rodriguez remained in critical condition at Loma Linda Medical Center on Monday morning, said Coach Todd Fink.

Grief counselors were on hand at Boron to help students deal with their emotions following the serious injury sustained by Rodriguez, who suffered seizures related to an apparent head injury Friday during the Bobcats’ game against California Riverside School for the Deaf.

‘We’ve only got 150 kids in our school, so it’s pretty dramatic,’ Athletic Director Jim Boghosian said. ‘We’re praying for him.’

Several hundred students, teachers and members of the community held a candlelight vigil at Boron High on Saturday night and the players voted to play Friday’s game at Kern Valley. Fink said that was still the plan Monday.
