Troy Thomas played and coached at Crespi. He’s in the school’s Hall of Fame. So when he brings his Servite team back to his alma mater on Friday night, win or lose, he’s going to be feeling quite at ease.

‘It’s going to be fun,’ he said. ‘It’s always fun going back.’

Thomas has Servite off to a 2-0 start, and he’ll find out a lot about his team by taking on the Celts, who are also 2-0. The schools met in the Pac-5 Division semifinals last season won by Crespi in overtime.

One Thomas family member who won’t be making the trip is his wife, Stacey, who gave birth on Sunday to the couple’s fourth child, daughter Preslee Rose, named after Elvis Presley and an Aunt Rose in the family.

As for Servite, Thomas said, ‘We’re getting better.’

It’s a big game as far as matching the Trinity League against the Serra League. Already, Bishop Amat of the Serra League upset Orange Lutheran. And remember, there’s only one wild-card berth in the Pac-5.
