Boron will play with a full complement of 20 players tonight against Kern Valley in its first game since sophomore Vinnie Rodriguez died as a result of head injuries suffered during a game last week.

‘Getting on the field is a win for us,’ Bobcats Coach Todd Fink said. ‘It’s about the effort we put out. It’s already a win.’

Fink said he was touched by a call he received earlier today from USC Coach Pete Carroll, who told him that the Boron team was in his thoughts.

‘That’s pretty awesome,’ Fink said.

Fink said Boron defeated Kern Valley, 33-12, last season with only 13 players available after he suspended five for disciplinary reasons. Kern Valley’s junior varsity team defeated Boron, 19-0, this afternoon.
