After running onto the field before the game holding the outstretched jersey of their fallen teammate, Boron got off to a fast start tonight against host Kern Valley.

The Bobcats recovered a game-opening onside kick and scored shortly thereafter on a 45-yard run by Lucas Israel, but the Bobcats trailed at halftime, 21-14, in the first game since sophomore Vinnie Rodriguez died from head injuries sustained in a game last week.

Kern Valley’s Mark Eisenhauer had an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a seven-yard run for another score that gave the Broncs a 21-14 lead.

The Bobcats drove to Kern Valley five-yard line at the end of the half but had run out of timeouts and couldn’t get off another play.
