It’s true when they say a game can be decided by a matter of inches. In the Loyola-De La Salle football game on Saturday night, the decisive 75-yard return of a short field-goal attempt wouldn’t have happened if the ball had only traveled a few more inches into the end zone.

Then it would have been a dead ball and an automatic touchback, forcing De La Salle to put together an 80-yard scoring drive in the final four minutes to overcome a 21-19 deficit. Instead, the returned kick picked up at the goal line set up the game-winning touchdown that enabled De La Salle to win, 27-21.
