Upland quarterback Josh Nunes released a statement Saturday afternoon saying he had switched his commitment from Tennessee to Stanford after the Cardinal made an unexpected scholarship offer.

‘I would like to apologize to the University of Tennessee as I had mistakenly thought that I would not have an opportunity to play at Stanford,’ Nunes said. ‘Stanford has always been my dream to attend and for the past three years, ever since I’ve been coached by him at his camp, it’s been my dream to play for Coach [Jim] Harbaugh. Stanford is the only school I’ve camped at for the past few years and I believe that I have to follow my heart.’

Unless he changes his mind again, Nunes, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound senior considered one of the top quarterbacks in Southern California, will now play in the same conference as UCLA-bound Richard Brehaut of Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos. Upland and Los Osos play on Oct. 24.
