With a 2-3 record and coming off a 52-14 thumping at the hands of Loyola, Hart isn’t exactly entering its Foothill League opener Friday against Saugus on an upswing.

Hart Coach Mike Herrington is trying to boost the confidence of his players that is seemingly in freefall.

‘We were here until 2 in the morning watching film,’ Herrington said of his Saturday workload.

The good news is that four key defensive starters who didn’t play against Loyola are expected back for Saugus, and Herrington remains convinced that his team can turn things around.

‘We can win the league, and I told the team that,’ he said.

Getting standout two-way starter Demitri Diamond back this week will help. He has been sidelined for a month with a separated shoulder.
