Everybody here on The Times prep crew had big hopes for City Section teams at the beginning of the season. Following Birmingham‘s debatable absence from a state bowl game last year, we were really looking forward to seeing if anyone from the LAUSD would be playing at the Home Depot Center this December.

Unfortunately, those rosy outlooks didn’t hold up.

OK, numerically-challenged Jordan (that’s actually a compliment) has done well despite playing a fire-and-brimstone nonleague schedule that included games against parochial powers St. Bonaventure and Mater Dei. Unfortunately, even though the Bulldogs are my new favorite to win the City Section title, they won’t be playing in a bowl game unless something apocalyptic happens.

Narbonne‘s reputation took a hit after Los Alamitos beat the Gauchos last week, and Friday’s game between Carson and unbeaten San Pedro is another one of those telltale matchups (you’ve got to like the South Bay’s chances this year). Oh, and I don’t care what anybody tells you -- Birmingham won’t three-peat, even though I thought they would back in August.

But enough of what I think. Who do you see doing a victory dance at the Los Angeles Coliseum this winter?
