Two-time defending City Section champion Birmingham is starting to beat up on opponents after an 0-4 start, letting everyone know that it intends to be a factor in the race for a City Championship.

‘We finally got all our guys healthy at the same time,’ Coach Ed Croson said. ‘We run a pretty sophisticated scheme for high school, and you have limited time to prepare, and it takes the guys a while to get the stuff down, and they’re starting to get it.’

Birmingham has defeated Dorsey, 44-6, and Granada Hills, 64-8, in its last two games.

Croson said there are at least eight teams that can win the City title _ Narbonne, Carson, San Pedro and Banning from the Marine League, Dorsey and Crenshaw from the Coliseum and the Patriots and Taft from the West Valley.

‘There’s more teams this year that have a chance than years past,’ he said.
