St. John Bosco Coach Kiki Mendoza said the Southern Section could rule on a hardship eligibility waiver filed by transfer running back Alex Fletcher on Thursday, potentially giving the Braves another potent offensive weapon on Friday for their Trinity League game against Orange Lutheran.

Fletcher was one of the top running backs in the Southland last year at Lakewood but has not played this season since departing for St. John Bosco. He was struggling academically at the time of the transfer but has made strides in the classroom, Mendoza said.

There’s little doubt that adding Fletcher to a team that already includes highly touted quarterback Keith Price would give the Braves one of the top pass-run combos in Southern California.

‘He’s a great athlete,’ Mendoza said of Fletcher. ‘We don’t have any guys built like him. He’s strong and fast and a phenomenal football player.’
