By losing to Alemany, 21-16, Saturday night, Los Angeles Loyola (4-3) isn’t exactly heading into Serra League play on a positive note.

The Indians (6-1) got two touchdowns from quarterback David Metcalf, who also passed for a touchdown. It was a milestone for Alemany Coach Dean Herrington, who has rebuilt the program to the point it’s starting to beat longtime powers.

But Loyola hasn’t made the playoffs in the last two years, and the Serra League is stronger than ever. The Cubs face Bishop Amat (6-1) on Saturday night, then take on Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and Crespi.

Loyola has been unable to find any offensive options other than running back Anthony Barr, and the good teams are going to find ways to focus on stopping Barr.

Upate: Injury issues kept Barr on the bench for the second half against Alemany.
