Mater Dei appears halfway home to a victory that could clinch at least a share of the Trinity League title, leading error-prone St. John Bosco, 21-0, at halftime at Santa Ana Stadium.

Jaron Hytche has rushed for 54 yards and three touchdowns in eight carries for the Monarchs, who have recovered two fumbled kickoffs and blocked a field goal.

Mater Dei quarterback Matt Barkley has completed 12 of 21 passes for 140 yards with one interception, his first in four league games. St. John Bosco quarterback Keith Price has completed nine of 14 passes for 112 yards.

The Braves had a first and goal at the Monarchs’ two-yard line late in the first quarter but lost four yards in three plays before Mater Dei’s Christian Maldonado blocked a 23-yard field goal attempt.

St. John Bosco will receive the ball to start the second half and desperately needs to score a touchdown to get back in the game.
