The Marine League showdown between Narbonne and Carson on Friday could be a thriller, but it won’t be suspense-filled.

That’s because Narbonne (8-1 overall, 4-0 league) will represent the league as the No. 1 playoff entrant regardless of the outcome after winning coin flips with Carson (5-4, 3-1) and San Pedro (8-1, 3-1) earlier this week in the event there’s a three-way tie for the league title.

Carson Coach Michael Christensen wasn’t thrilled that the flips were held before the game.

‘I don’t like the fact that even if we beat them, we’re not going to be the No. 1 seed’ from the Marine League, Christensen said.

Narbonne Coach Manuel Douglas said he informed his players of the coin-toss results to alleviate any pressure they might feel.

‘I don’t want them pressing, thinking we’re playing for the No. 1 seed,’ Douglas said. ‘Let’s go out and win this game for bragging rights and to say we’re undefeated league champs.’

The biggest loser might be San Pedro, which would finish 9-1 and be the No. 3 playoff entry from the league should it defeat Gardena and Carson knock off Narbonne.
