Esperanza turned the Sunset League into a five-way tie for first place Friday with a 16-3 upset victory over Edison. It forced a series of coin flips that left Esperanza as the No. 1 team, followed by Fountain Valley No. 2, Los Alamitos No. 3 and Edison No. 4, according to The Register.

That’s bad news for Edison, which now must wait to see if it can get the lone at-large playoff berth for the Pac-5 Division. Edison would have to beat out Bishop Amat from the Serra League and St. John Bosco from the Trinity League. I can’t wait to see how the Southern Section is going to separate those three, all of whom played tough competition.

Anyone who can put together a good resume for those three teams had better forward it to the Southern Section to make your case.

I’d say Bishop Amat has been playing the best of the three of late. Bishop Amat owns a victory over Orange Lutheran. Edison beat Mater Dei. St. John Bosco beat Loyola but did little in Trinity League play. I’d say it’s going to come down to Edison and Bishop Amat.
