Football: Birmingham strikes quickly

USC-bound De’Von Flournoy caught a short shovel pass and turned it into a 64-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage to give Birmingham a 6-0 lead over Garfield in a first-round game of the City Championship Division playoffs.

Flournoy also made an interception on Garfield’s first possession.
