Saugus marched 79 yards in 15 plays, but couldn’t get the one more yard it needed to get back into tonight’s Northern Division semifinal game against St. Bonaventure at Ventura High.

Running back Ryan Zirbel was stopped inside the one-yard line on second-and-goal from the Seraphs’ two as time expired to end the first half. Saugus might have been the victim of a quick whistle as Zirbel was wrapped up initially but broke free and seemed to be making forward progress when the play was blown dead.

The missed opportunity means the Centurions still trail, 14-0, as the teams head for their locker rooms to regroup.

Desi Rodriguez has rushed for 56 yards in 12 carries and has completed five out of seven passes for 52 yards for Saugus. Logan Meyer has completed six of seven passes for 41 yards for host St. Bonaventure.
