Live blog: Arleta ahead 3-0 after fast first quarter

It was a swiftly-played first quarter dominated by the defenses but after 12 minutes Arleta is clinging to a 3-0 lead over Franklin in tonight’s City Invitational football final at East Los Angeles College.

The top-seeded Mustangs took the lead at the 6:46 mark on a 36-yard field goal by Christian Lopez, capping a seven-play drive. The kick wasn’t pretty but it was accurate enough to get Arleta on the board first.

Franklin is trying to answer right back. The Panthers have gained three consecutive first downs and will have the ball deep in Arleta territory when the second quarter begins...
