Boys’ basketball: Salley powers Lutheran at Pangos Dream Classic

Jordan Salley had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Bruce English had 15 points and C.J. Cooper added six points and nine assists for La Verne Lutheran, which cruised past Brentwood, 75-43, in the second of five games in Saturday’s Pangos Dream Classic at Long Beach City College.

Mack Fraser had 16 points and Josh Duckworth added 10 for the Eagles (1-8), who had too big a hill to climb after falling behind 44-18 by halftime.

Lutheran (6-6) lost only once on its way to the Division V championship last year but has scheduled bigger schools so far this winter in preparation for defense of its Arrowhead League title and another playoff run.

When the new CIF rankings come out, Lutheran will likely be seeded second in Division V behind Windward, ranked No. 11 by The Times, which plays No. 10 Leuzinger in the next game to begin shortly.
