Santa Clarita Golden Valley could go from 0-10 to 10-0 in the Foothill League in a year’s time. The Grizzlies won their league opener Tuesday night and improved to 16-1 overall with a 63-55 victory over Hart.

It was not an easy victory. Golden Valley made just four of 25 shots in the first half and had 15 turnovers while falling behind, 21-14. The deficit increased to 10 points in the third quarter before Golden Valley woke up and started to play defense.

The pace quickened, and that was the end for Hart. Maverick Ahanmisi scored 16 points and Trevor Wiseman had 15 points for Golden Valley, ranked No. 14 by The Times and No. 4 in the Southern Section Division III-A coaches’ poll.

Ben Kimble had 16 points for Hart. It’s still a long ways to go, but Golden Valley has the personnel to win the Foothill League and complete the last to first scenario. It’s a team with lots of shooters, and in the 6-foot-6 Wiseman, he’s a junior with tons of potential.
