Boys’ basketball: Lots of good games on tap for Monday

With apologies to the marketing executives at ESPN, it’s shaping up as a Big Monday in boys’ basketball in the Southland.

Perhaps the most intriguing game of the day matches top-ranked Mater Dei against Chicago Whitney Young, which features Michael Jordan’s son Marcus, in Springfield, Mass., at 1 p.m. Whitney Young had been nationally ranked by USA Today until falling out this week.

No. 4 Compton Dominguez also plays Pacific Northwest power Seattle Rainier Beach at the University of Washington. In games played locally, No. 7 Etiwanda will play No. 13 Los Alamitos at 7:30 p.m. at Los Osos in the ‘MLK I have a Dream Classic at the Cave’ and No. 6 King will play host to No. 8 Diamond Ranch at 8 p.m. in the Martin Luther King Inland Invitational.

Other games at Los Osos: Ontario vs. Claremont, 10:30 a.m.; Bishop Amat vs. Charter Oak, noon; Colton vs. Glendora, 1:30 p.m.; Diamond Bar vs. Miller, 3 p.m.; Chino Hills vs. Great Oak, 4:30 p.m.; Los Osos vs. Twentynine Palms, 6 p.m.

Other games at King: Ayala vs. Lakeside, 10 a.m.; Perris vs. Cathedral, 11:40 a.m.; Cajon vs. Las Vegas Durango, 1:20 p.m.; Colony vs. North Las Vegas (Nev.) Cheyenne, 3 p.m.; Chaparral vs. Phoenix Precision, 4:40 p.m.; West Valley vs. Las Vegas Bishop Gorman, 6:20 p.m.
