Trey Williams, a freshman third baseman who was a standout at Mission Hills Alemany during summer, fall and winter ball, has checked out of school and is transferring to Valencia, his neighborhood school, Alemany Coach Randy Thompson said Thursday.

‘He’s a talented ballplayer,’ Thompson said.

Williams’ arrival strengthens a Valencia team that already boasts one of the top sophomores in the state in shortstop Christian Lopes. Thompson said he believes Williams left Alemany for financial reasons. He’ll be eligible immediately because he has not played high school baseball yet.
