Boys’ basketball: Etiwanda gets past Golden Valley

In a matchup of top 25 teams, No. 7 Etiwanda received 18 points from Perris Blackwell and 16 from Jordan Finn to defeat No. 13 Golden Valley, 75-51, in the SoCal Shootout on Saturday at Azusa Pacific.
Etiwanda (15-4) has had trouble beating top teams in close games, with losses to Westchester, Taft, Dominguez and Los Alamitos all coming by five points or less, but Golden Valley (19-2) couldn’t keep up. Steve Thornton had 25 points for Golden Valley.
Next up for Etiwanda is a Saturday night rematch against Taft at 8 at Fairfax as part of the Fairfax State Preview Classic. Let’s just say that Etiwanda will be the favorite, considering that Taft has been playing poorly of late, struggling against West Valley League teams Cleveland and Chatsworth.
