Redondo Coach Tom Maier recorded his 600th career victory Tuesday night during the Sea Hawks’ 55-52 Bay League victory over West Torrance.

The triumph was also significant because Redondo (10-10, 4-1) moved into a three-way tie for first place in the league standings alongside West Torrance and Leuzinger. The Sea Hawks also snapped West Torrance’s 13-game winning streak.

‘Six hundred wins? It’s a nice mark, but I’ll tell you that I’ve lost almost half as many,’ Maier told the South Bay’s Daily Breeze with a smirk. ‘What’s important is the way the team played and how we fought back.

‘A month ago, we would have probably lost a game like this. So they showed me something.’

Maier has spent the last eight years at Redondo after coaching his first 27 seasons at Chadwick.
