Apparently bowing to safety concerns, City Section Commissioner Barbara Fiege has switched the start time for the Coliseum League rematch between Fremont and Crenshaw to 4 p.m. at Fremont, according to Crenshaw Coach Ed Waters.

The game was originally scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

‘I think there were a lot of concerns and strategies for safety and security on the table,’ Waters wrote in an e-mail late Thursday night. ‘I can only conclude that the CIF took into consideration all concerns of administrators and the safety of students, parents and players.’

A brawl broke out involving players and fans when the teams met last month at Crenshaw, and the Cougars were awarded a forfeit victory after a second technical foul was assessed on Fremont Coach Sam Sullivan for failure to control the players on his bench.

Security is being stepped up for this afternoon’s game.
