Boys’ basketball: No coin flip to decide City No. 1 seed

Forget about Westchester and Fairfax flipping a coin to break their tie in the Western League, with the winner getting the No. 1 seed for the City Section Division I playoffs.

On Saturday, the No. 1 seed will go to the school that has the better rating in a Maxpreps.com rating system that includes strength of schedule. Westchester had a slight edge over Fairfax going into this week.

Taft has no shot at a No. 1 or No. 2 seed based on the latest rating system. It’s good that the City basketball coaches have changed the way they seed teams, but I have definite concerns relying on a computer rating system. Somebody better check to make sure it’s accurate.
