Marc Hernandez, the athletic director at St. Paul, said he has no doubt that Marijon Ancich still has the energy to coach at the high school level. Hernandez said that became apparent today when Ancich, who is in his seventies, met with his players for the first time.

‘Just watching the kids and looking at him, there was a lot of energy in that room,’ Hernandez said. ‘I just think it’s in him. I don’t have any concerns about that.’

Asked how long he anticipated Ancich would coach in his third stint at St. Paul, Hernandez said, ‘As long as he wants to be the coach here, he’s going to be the coach here. There isn’t a real timetable set. Obviously we’re hoping he’s going to be here for a long time.’

As for exactly how old Ancich is, no one would say--not even his wife, Jacquie.

‘He’d leave me if I told you,’ she said.
