Boys’ basketball: Taft defeats Crenshaw, 74-62

Justin Hawkins scored 20 points and Michael Williams added 18 to lead third-seeded Taft to a 74-62 victory over sixth-seeded Crenshaw tonight in a City Section Division I quarterfinal at Taft.

The Cougars cut the deficit to seven points with about 3 1/2 minutes left before the Toreadors scored eight of the next nine points to pull away.

Taft advanced to play second-seeded Fairfax, an 83-61 winner over Washington, in a semifinal on Saturday afternoon at the Galen Center.
