Boys’ basketball: Taft leads Crenshaw by nine at half

Nevada Las Vegas-bound guard Justin Hawkins scored eight points and Dominique Evans had seven to lead third-seeded Taft to a 37-28 halftime lead over sixth-seeded Crenshaw tonight in a City Section Division I quarterfinal at Taft.

Crenshaw had a chance to cut its deficit to four points late in the half but missed a layup. The Cougars have had trouble guarding the Toreadors on the perimeter and in the paint.

Guard Duce Zaid led Crenshaw with 11 points, including three three-point baskets.
