Girls’ basketball: Chatsworth is City Section champion

Led by its McDonald’s All-American, 6-foot-3 Gennifer Brandon, Chatsworth (23-8) won the City Section Division I girls’ basketball championship Friday with a 60-49 victory over West Valley League rival Taft at the Galen Center.

The game was tied, 26-26, at halftime. Chatsworth led, 37-36, after the three quarters. The Chancellors finally took charge in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Toreadors, 13-3, in the first five minutes to win their first City title for Coach Michelle Chevalier.

Monica Jackson added 15 points for Chatsworth. Taft, which stayed in the game by making six three-pointers, was led by Rmanii Haynes’ 10 points.
