King has done it. And it wasn’t even close.

The second-seeded Wolves toppled the top-seeded and top-ranked Monarchs, 71-56, in the Division I-AA championship this evening at the Honda Center. It was the first loss of the season for Mater Dei, which came into the game as the top-ranked team in the country according to USA Today.

King, which won its second consecutive section title, took control with a 15-0 run to close the third quarter and open the fourth. The Wolves then made eight of 10 free throws in the final 1 minute 26 seconds to hand Mater Dei its third consecutive defeat in a section championship.
