Sophomore Elias Gedyon of Los Angeles Loyola showed off his running potential this past weekend at the Foothill Invitational at Citrus College, running the 1,600 meters in 4 minutes 14 seconds during a relay and running the 800 in 1:55.9 during another relay.

He had the fastest time of any runner last fall at the state cross-country championships.

He’s going to continue to focus on the 800 most of this season. He finished sixth at the state championships in the event last year.

Coach Lalo Diaz intends to bring Gedyon along slowly in the 1,600, letting him mature into the event while building up his speed in the 800.

Anytime you have a chance to watch Gedyon in a track event, it’s something to see. He’s a true phenom in the making.
